Set your life on fire.
Seek those who fan your flames.
—Rumi
Would you love to be driven, more “on fire”, with your goals? Then spend time with people who are on fire with theirs—until you find something that resonates with you. Inspiration begets aspiration.
Seek role models in the area you are pursuing. Listen to them. Read their biographies. Learn about their daily grind. Understand what fired them up and see if that moves you too. If it doesn’t, then learn about somebody else. This is a very simple exercise, and Rumi summarizes it beautifully.
When looking for role models, dream big. Don’t compare their results (where they are now) with your process (where you are now) and think that you can never achieve that. The purpose is not to become like them, but to get inspired. You may end up doing something very different, yet be inspired by the same drive. Knowing what that drive is helps you figure out your aspirations.
Knowing who your role models are, in different areas of your life, will also be important for other exercises in Mindful Self-Discipline, so spend some minutes thinking about it now.
